On July 27, 2012, Công an Đà Nẵng published a Vietnamese article titled “Chàng thủ khoa nghèo đất Quảng” (“A poor valedictorian from Quang Nam”). The article was about me, Khuynh Van Nguyen, when I was still a student in class 12A6 at Que Son High School.
The article recorded how I received a total score of 28 and became the valedictorian of the Medicine program at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It also mentioned the days I cycled to school, helped my family, cared for my grandmother, and dreamed of becoming a doctor so I could someday serve people in my hometown.
I keep this article here because it preserves a very real moment from that time: a student from Quang Nam, living with many limitations, but believing that education could be a way to change life and repay the sacrifices of family.
