On September 4, 2023, Thanh Nien published a Vietnamese article titled “Sinh viên Việt Nam tại Hàn Quốc chào mừng Quốc khánh 2.9” (“Vietnamese students in Korea celebrate Vietnam’s National Day”). I keep this article in My story as a milestone from the years when I studied, lived, and took part in the Vietnamese student community in Korea.
The article reported on a National Day event organized by the Vietnamese Student Association at Chonnam National University for Vietnamese students, graduate students, and researchers in Chonnam and the Jeonnam-Gwangju region. This kind of activity matters to me because it reflects the community life of Vietnamese people living far from home: meeting one another, playing sports, performing music, and keeping a connection with Vietnam while studying abroad.
Unlike the 2012 articles that focused directly on my valedictorian story, this article represents another part of my later life: not only an individual journey, but also a community experience shaped by Vietnamese students supporting and connecting with one another overseas.
The original article is in Vietnamese and can be read on Thanh Nien:
